
To mitigate the risk of accidents during the thick winter fog, the Gautam Buddha Nagar traffic police on Saturday issued a formal traffic advisory to lower the speed limits in the main district. expressway and roads.
These revised maximum speed limits are effective from 15 December 2025 and will remain in force until 15 February 2026. The mandated reductions significantly lower the typical upper limits, which are usually 100 km/h for light vehicles and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles on expressways.

Traffic police have urged all motorists to strictly adhere to these temporary speed restrictions throughout the harsh winter season in the interest of public safety.
The necessity of new restrictions was underlined by two separate, main ones accidents reported on Saturday on the Eastern Peripheral Highway, under the jurisdiction of Dadri police station, both directly attributed to dense fog.
In the first incident, there was a three-vehicle pile-up on the Chakrasenpur flyover.
Poor visibility on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway led to a pile-up of around 15 vehicles on Saturday morning as dense fog engulfed the stretch and vehicles ahead slowed down, according to Hindustan Times.
Around 8.30 am, a vehicle traveling towards Palwal from Dasna side slowed down on EPE due to dense fog near Samadhipur village.
“While the vehicle was moving at low speed, another vehicle rammed into it from behind. When both the crashed vehicles stopped to check the damage, another vehicle rammed into them and within minutes, a chain collision involving as many as 15 vehicles, including heavy and light vehicles, took place,” the official said. The second, much bigger accident involved a chain reaction where around a dozen vehicles collided on the Samadhipur flyover.
Local police teams quickly responded to both crash sites and worked to free the damaged vehicles from the roadway and ensure they were parked in safe and accessible locations.
“There were no casualties in these accidents and traffic is flowing smoothly. Necessary legal steps are being taken,” the police spokeswoman said.
