Increasing the concerns of the “special intensive revision” of the election election commission of election roles in Bihar, the Indian Communist Party (Marxist), in the letter of the panel stated that exercise is similar to the national register of citizens for the state and is urgently abandoned.
Nilotpal Basu, a member of the CPI politician office (M), in the letter to the main election commissioner, said that the proposed exercise states the main part of the responsibility for incorporating or deleting election roles for voters themselves.
The duration of providing evidence of stay for all existing voters, said Mr. Basa, will lead to harassment of voters who may not have the necessary documents. Mr. Basa stated that the insistence of submitting evidence of the date and place of the birth of the voter and documents of the parent will “make more complicated matters”. Given the high level of migration in Bihar, Mr. Basa said that many real voters are currently available and are unable to return before completing this exercise could find their names deleted.

“This exercise is similar to the proposed NRC. There are concerns that it can be used to focus on a certain part of the voters leading to their exclusion,” he added.
Mr. Basa said that the timing of exercise is also a reason for concern, because it is so close to the elections of the Bihar Assembly, which must be held by November. Before performing such an exercise, he also marked the lack of consultations of the election commission. “Holding such a large exercise just a few months before the state goes to public opinion surveys, reverse the atmosphere and is full of danger. The timeframe to complete the exercise is only a month,” Basu said.
