
The state government has released around ₹ 792 crore of the ₹ 1,000 crore special grants announced for the development of Shiggaon Assembly constituency, Haveri district, in charge of minister Shivanand Patil on Sunday at Savanur in Haveri district.
“Ahead of the Assembly by-elections, we have secured special grants of ₹1,000 crore for Shiggaon Assembly constituency and have already released ₹792 crore for various development works,” he said. This included ₹300 crore for drinking water project for Shiggaon, Savanur and Bankapur towns.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Indira canteen and hostel buildings and laying the foundation stone for the renovation of Ambedkar Circle. He said the Varada-Bedti river linking project was a dream project and the government never backed down from it.
“Efforts are on to secure better prices for sugarcane growers through discussions with sugar mill owners,” said Mr. Patil, sugar minister.
Syed Azeempeer Khadri, chairman of HESCOM and former MLA, complained about the violation of protocol in organizing government programs in Haveri district. He said officers ignored him when they organized functionaries. He also expressed displeasure with the functioning of the district police and urged SP Yashoda Vantagudi to intensify vigilance and direct the police to curb illegal activities and take strict action against anti-social elements in the district as well as Shiggaon constituency.
