Special court takes cognizance of NIA charges in 2025 Red Fort blast case

A special court on Saturday (August 29, 2026) took cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the November 10, 2025 blast at Red Fort in New Delhi that killed 14 people and injured dozens.

According to the NIA’s 7,500-page charge sheet, filed in May, the blast was allegedly orchestrated by a terror module led by a group of doctors who had been searching for the suicide bomber for nearly a year. Dr. Umar-un-Nabi, named as the prime accused, was said to be driving the explosives-laden vehicle that exploded in the state capital.

Probe

The agency subsequently arrested 11 people accused of aiding the attack by providing logistical support, harboring suspects and attempting to destroy evidence. The accused allegedly had links with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an organization described by the NIA as an arm of Al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent.

In July, a supplementary indictment was filed against three other accused, including a fugitive pediatrician who was allegedly a founding member of the terrorist cell. This brings the number of accused in the case to 13.

The next hearing is scheduled for September 9.
