Speakers of state legislatures showcase Karnataka’s parliamentary heritage in SA

Karnataka Legislative Council Speaker Saleem Ahmed and Legislative Assembly Speaker GS Patil attend the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa. The event started on September 13th and will run until September 19th.

During the inauguration ceremony, they presented a special booklet on Karnataka to Thoko Didiza, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of South Africa.

The brochure showcases Karnataka’s parliamentary heritage, administrative system, cultural wealth and development achievements to international delegates attending the conference.

The Indian delegation is led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. He urged members to actively participate in conference sessions and workshops and effectively articulate India’s views to ensure that the country’s interests and perspectives are strongly represented on the global stage.

The main theme of the conference is “Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: Commonwealth Leadership”. The discussion will focus on the role of parliaments in response to changes in the global order.

During the meeting, the program of six key workshops of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference was also outlined for the Indian delegation.
