Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar led a bike rally on the theme of helmet awareness at Dharmavaram in Sri Sathya Sai district on Wednesday. The event was jointly organized by the police and road transport departments.
SP addressed the public and drew attention to the alarming traffic accident statistics. He said the district recorded as many as 555 road accidents in 2025, of which 190 involved two-wheelers, resulting in 120 deaths. “Absence of helmets is the single most significant factor behind preventable deaths in two-wheeler accidents,” said Mr. Satish Kumar.
The SP said the head protection ensured the safety of the family and urged motorists to prioritize helmets and safety over speed.
The SP warned against drunken driving, using mobile phones while driving and allowing minors to operate two-wheelers and cars. “Such carelessness can destroy entire families. The police department would intensify awareness drives across the district before going for stricter enforcement of the helmet rule,” he said.
District Traffic Officer Karuna Sagar Reddy, Deputy SP Hemanth Kumar and senior officials from both departments took part in the four-km rally that passed through the main arteries of Dharmavaram town.
