IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu along with former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya unveiled a statue of legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) at Ravindra Bharathi here on Monday.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Sridhar Babu said that SPB, who has rendered more than 40,000 songs in 14 Indian languages, demonstrating the universal appeal of music, has left an indelible mark in the history of Indian film music.
Describing him as an artiste who transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries, the minister noted that SPB was not only a unique playback singer but also a versatile actor, music composer and dubbing artiste. He observed that SPB’s singing was characterized by natural expression and emotional depth, often giving the impression that the actors on screen were singing themselves.
Mr. Sridhar Babu added that SPB consistently supports young talent and embraces new musical trends while remaining rooted in discipline and humility. The statue, he said, symbolizes a lasting tribute to Balasubrahmanyam’s artistic excellence and the values he embodied.
The minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to support arts and culture and said efforts to recognize and support artists would continue. BJP state unit president N. Ramchander Rao and Balasubrahmanyam’s son SP Charan attended the programme.
