The former English stimulator Stuart Broad joins the South African team as a consultant before the final clash of the World Championship (WTC) with Australia in Lord 11 June.
This will be Broad’s first coaching from retirement from the international cricket in 2023. June 9 is launched for South African training at Lord’s and offering his expertise because Proteas is preparing for the ruling awning champions.
Broad brings a lot of experience because he took 604 goals in 167 tests – the second most for England behind James Anderson. In particular, 153 of these goals came against Australia, most of the pitch against a single opponent in the history of the test. His record in Lord’s is equally impressive, with 113 goals in 28 matches in a historic place.
South Africa has already arrived in the UK and started its preparations with a four -day warm -up match against Zimbabwe in Arundel Castle Cricket Ground since June 4. Under the leadership of Temba Bavum, Proteas looks at his first WTC title after completing the table of eight victories, three losses and a draw in the current cycle.
Their campaign began with the draw of the series 1-1 against India at home, followed by a 2-0 defeat in New Zealand. From there they built the momentum with the victory of the series 1-0 in West India and consequently 2-0 victories over Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan-last-sealed with a dramatic victory of two goal in Centurion.
Australia, which raised MACE WTC in 2023 after defeating India in the oval, finished second in the ranking. They started their campaign with two Ashes victories before England fought back to the 2-2 series. Aussies then swept Pakistan 3-0 at home, stretched 1-1 with western India and claimed the victory of the 2-0 series in New Zealand. The victory of the 2-1 home series against India in Trophy Border-Gavascar and the last 2-0 sweeping Sri Lanka rounded off their road to the finals.
Given that both parties bring a strong form and experience to the competition, and South Africa hopes that Broad – especially against the familiar enemies in Australia – can give them an advantage when they pursue their first WTC crown in the “cricket home”.
