South Africa has appointed a 17-year-old Wicketkeeper Karabo Meso in its 15-member team for the upcoming ODI World Championship, which will be held at the end of this month in India and Sri Lanka.
The Meso, who made his debut against Sri Lanka in March this year, has so far appeared in two ODIs and five T20i. Despite her limited experience, she has already shown a promise at the highest level and now gets a chance to try at the biggest phase of all.
The teenager had previously played in two female T20 championships under 19 years in 2023 and 2025 and now takes a step to his first World Cup.
Wolvaardt leads an experienced team
Laura Wolves The captain will also include the established names such as Sune Luus, Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon and Ayabong Khaka. Former captain Dane van Niekerk, who recently reversed his decision to retire, was omitted, although he was part of the training camp before the tournament.
Squad hits a balance between youth and experience, while experienced activists expect to lead MESO and other young players through the tournament. Selectors also retained several versatile possibilities to provide flexibility in Indian and Sri Lankan conditions.
South Africa will start its World Cup campaign 3. October against England in Guwahati. On October 9, they will also face a significant conflict against India’s hosts in Visakhapatnam, a struggle that is likely to attract considerable attention due to the growing Indian figure in the female game.
Before going to the tournament, Proteas will focus on its preparations with a series of three ODI matches against Pakistan in Lahore, scheduled for 16, 19 and 22 September.
Cricket Officials said that the series will serve as a vital match practice and an opportunity to fine -tune the combinations before the World Cup.
The integration of MESO is considered an investment in the future of the team, but immediate focus will be on a strong pressure on the title. South Africa has achieved the semifinals of several global tournaments, but so far they have to claim the main trophy in the female cricket.
