South Africa A stunned Indian Test bowling attack as they chase down a massive target of 417 on Day 4 of the second unofficial Test on Sunday, November 9 at the BCCI Center of Excellence Ground 1, Bengaluru. The visitors were led by excellent contributions from Jordan Hermann (91), Lesego Senokwane (77) and Zubayr Hamza (77) who all stood up against India A’s star-studded bowling attack.
The India A bowlers, including Mohammed Siraj (1/53), Akash Deep (1/106), Kuldeep Yadav (0/81) and Prasidh Krishna (2/49), came under a lot of pressure as the South African batsmen took full advantage of the favorable batting conditions.
Chasing 417, South Africa A got off to a solid start as openers Hermann and Senokwane added 156 runs for the first wicket. Prasidh Krishna gave India A the first breakthrough, dismissing Hermann off his own bowling, before left-armer Harsh Dubey trapped Senokwane lbw to go two down.
With both the openers back in the pavilion, Zubayr Hamza and Temba Bavuma steadied the innings and continued to frustrate the tiring Indian attack with a massive 107-run partnership for the third wicket. Sensing the game slipping away, captain Rishabh Pant brought back Prasidh Krishna who struck again to dismiss Hamza rattling the stumps.
India A briefly clawed their way back into the contest when Mohammed Siraj found the outside edge of Marques Ackerman (24), followed by Akash Deep, who removed the well-set Bavuma for 59, leaving South Africa A at 352 for 5.
However, wicketkeeper Connor Esterhuizen (52* off 53) played a composed and counter-attacking innings, supported by Tiaan van Vuuren (20* off 23), to lead South Africa A to a famous victory. They reached the target in 98 overs, with three overs to spare, completing one of the most memorable run chases.
