
Sourav ganguly was re -elected on Monday as the president of the cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and described his return after a six -year gap. The ganguly, which previously worked as president from 2015 to 2019, was elected during the 94 annual general meeting of the cab. He replaces his brother Snehashish Ganguly, who resigned after the six -year period.
The PTI press agency reported that the gangules outlined its immediate priorities, including the expansion of Eden Gardens capacity to one Lakh viewer and ensuring Marquis at the World Championship in 2024 T20. “The World Cup T20 will be a huge event next year and Eden Gardens should play a key role in it,” he said. He also expressed the excitement of the return of the test cricket to Eden Gardens with the upcoming Indian match against South Africa 14. November-first test there from a historical pink ball game in 2019 against Bangladesh, which the ganguly promoted as President BCCI.
“I am convinced that the South Africa test will be a great match. Both teams are the highest parties and the Eden Gardens devices are first -class,” said gangules, although he noted that there was still time before the match.
Will Eden Gardens return to 100,000 capacity?
Looking at the World Cup T20, Gangules hopes that Eden Gardens will host important games, including potential semifinals. “I will soon talk to the new BCCI leadership about the arrangements,” added Mithun Manhas with the newly appointed President BCCI Mithun Manhas and the treasurer Raghuram Bhat.
One of the long -term gangule objectives is to expand Eden Gardens to 100,000, making it the second largest cricket stadium in India after the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. The stadium capacity was reduced to 68,000 before the 2011 World Cup, but the gangules plan to reverse it. “We will try to expand after the World Cup T20. The lease has been renewed and we are excited to move forward,” he said.
In addition to infrastructure plans, gangules focus on strengthening the first -class cricket structure of Bengal. He emphasized the development of the most modern cricket academy in Dumurjale in Howrah on nine acres of land. “It will be first-class equipment with skylights and modern equipment, just like the Kalyani Academy,” said Ganguly, adding that this project is expected to last about 1-1.5 years.
Another priority for gangules is the expansion of the Vision 2020 from CAB, focused on 2036, in accordance with Indian Olympic aspirations. “We want to produce crickets who can represent India at the Olympics,” he said.
As part of Ganguly’s management, CAB increased its development fund for state units and district associations from RS 5 CRORE on CRS RS.
The unrepeated Ganguly panel, which includes Bablu Kolay (secretary), Madan Mohan Ghosh (secretary in common), Sanjay das (Treasurer) and the Anu Dutt (vice -chairman), was also elected.
