Sourav Ganguly dismisses claims of conflict of interest after taking over as DC coach
Sourav Ganguly dismissed concerns of a potential conflict of interest arising from his new role as Delhi Capitals head coach while continuing to serve as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal. The former Indian captain said he has an order from the BCCI ombudsman to address the issue.
“I have an ombudsman’s order,” Ganguly told reporters after the India vs Uruguay football match.
Ganguly is set to make his debut as an IPL head coach in the 2027 season by taking over the Delhi-based franchise from Hemang Badani. This will be his first appointment as head coach of an IPL side.
He already had a successful run with Pretoria Capitals, DC’s sister franchise, leading them to the SA20 final last year.
The 53-year-old has been part of the Delhi Capitals since 2019 and has held several positions within the franchise. He was most recently Director of Cricket, working with both the men’s and women’s teams.
The former India captain also expressed confidence in the Delhi team ahead of the new season.
“Delhi will play well. I am looking forward to it,” Ganguly told reporters on Tuesday.
Ganguly will step into the role alongside a leading Delhi Capitals unit led by skipper Axar Patel and veteran batsman KL Rahul. The franchise has also added more experience to its Indian contingent brings Rishabh Pant back from Lucknow Super Giants after IPL 2026 season.
The former India captain has already hinted that a coaching role with Delhi could be on the cards. Ganguly is reportedly all set to bring along a star-studded support staff for the IPL next season.
Along with Ganguly and Yuvraj, Sri Lankan pace legend Chaminda Vaas and Amit Mishra are also expected to enter the DC back-end.
Delhi finished sixth in the points table last year, far from the playoffs.
