Sourav Ganguly declares no conflict of interest as Delhi Capitals coach heads CAB

Sourav Ganguly has said there is no conflict of interest in his taking over as the head coach of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals while continuing to serve as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, saying he has the mandate of the BCCI ombudsman.Ganguly will take charge of an IPL team as head coach for the first time after replacing Hemang Badani at Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 season.The former India captain has been associated with the Capitals since 2019 and has held several positions including Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s teams. His appointment will be his first stint as an IPL head coach.“Delhi will play well. I am looking forward to it,” Ganguly told reporters on Tuesday, as quoted by news agency PTI.Ganguly was speaking after watching India’s 1-6 defeat against Uruguay in a FIFA international friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium.Asked about a possible conflict of interest arising from his dual role, Ganguly said: “I have an ombudsman order.”Ganguly also supported India’s decision to play against top international teams and said the exposure will help Indian footballers improve.“It’s a good initiative and they will learn that way. It (development) doesn’t happen overnight. You only improve by playing against good teams,” he said.
