Amid the massive disruption at IndiGo that has caused nearly 1,000 flight cancellations and multiple delays, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has asked passengers to be kind to the staff.
The actor emphasized that the burden of the cancellation is also borne by the IndiGo staff and shouting at them will not solve anything.
“Delayed flight is frustrating but remember the faces trying to make it right. Please be nice and humble to IndiGo staff; they are also bearing the brunt of the cancellation. Let’s support them,” Sood said in X’s post.
In a video message, Sonu Sood shared that his family members were also on the receiving end of IndiGo’s disruption and spent nearly 8 hours at the airport.
But he said he felt very bad for the staff “because the kind of anger that people had, the kind of frustration that people had, they were taking it out on them”. “They were yelling at them, abusing them… I really felt very bad.”
The actor said he agreed that having your flight delayed or cancelled, especially when you have some urgent work, is frustrating, but urged IndiGo passengers to understand that “the person standing in front of you at the counter is not responsible for the delay or cancellation of your flight”.
“He’s also an employee, just like all of us. He’s also been stuck there for the last so many hours, without food, without water, listening to everyone’s frustration and anger,” Sood noted.
“So please, next time your flight is delayed or cancelled, don’t get mad at the person standing at the counter. Be a little polite, talk to them with a smile, cooperate with them,” he urged. Sood said things get resolved much faster if you’re kind.
However, he ended his message with a note to IndiGo – “IndiGo please look into the matter and try to resolve it as soon as possible as many people are suffering. Thank you.”
The collapse of IndiGo
IndiGo operates around 2,300 flights a day and has been canceling hundreds of flights over the past four days as it struggles to secure adequate crew to operate its vast and dense network.
The airline canceled all domestic flights till Friday midnight departing from Delhi airport, acknowledging that it was the worst affected day with more than 1,000 cancellations.
