Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for a routine medical check-up, according to reports citing party sources.
Gandhi was admitted to the hospital late on Tuesday evening after he felt unwell, PTI news agency reported citing sources.
According to sources quoted by the news agency, the Congress Parliamentary Party chairman felt discomfort due to the change in weather and was being monitored. The treating doctors indicated that it was nothing serious.
Her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, visited her in the hospital.
Previous hospitalization
The Congress leader was earlier admitted to the same hospital in January this year due to respiratory problems. Dr. Ajay Swaroop, chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, told ANI at the time that he had difficulty breathing, which the medical assessment attributed to a mild exacerbation of bronchial asthma triggered by the cold weather and pollution.
Veteran leader, key roles
Sonia Gandhi, who turned 79 this December, is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Rajasthan. She also serves as the Parliamentary Speaker of the Indian National Congress.
She has had a long parliamentary career, serving five terms as a member of the Lok Sabha before moving to the Upper House. Gandhi also led the Congress Party twice – as President from 1998 to 2017 and again from 2019 to 2022.
Limited public appearances
In recent years, Gandhi has been seen less often at public events, and her health has become the subject of regular attention.
There have been at least two publicly reported hospital visits in the past year:
June 2025: Admitted to Sir Ganga Rama Hospital due to stomach problem
June 2025 (earlier): Hospitalized in Shimla for a routine check-up for minor health problems
