Son Nigam singer turned to the Karnataka High Court, who tried to cancel a criminal case registered against him for alleged offensive comments about Kannadigas during a recent Bengalur concert.
The petition was listed before the holiday bench of justice Shivashankar Amarannavar, who postponed the matter for hearing until 15 May. A dispute that comes from an incident that occurred on April 25 at a live concert held at the engineering university in Bengalur.
During the show, several members of the audience asked Nigam to sing in Cannada. The reports state that the singer refused the application and expressed my displeasure in the way he was made and accused some of the participants of being a bad. Although Nigam confirmed his respect and admiration for Kannadigase, he reportedly drew a controversial parallel by saying, “That’s why Pahalgam has happened,” he refers to a terrorist attack in the Jamm and Kashmir Prahalgam region.
The statement quickly gained traction on social media and caused outrage.
On May 2, Ta Dharmaraj, President of the Bangalore City Unit in Karnataka Rakshan Vedike (Narayana Gowd Fraction), filed a complaint on the note.
On the basis of this complaint, the police registered the Avalhali Case 3.
After resistance, Nigam issued public statements expressing regret and apologized for his comments. However, legal proceedings continued and forced the singer to file a current action for the dismissal of the accusation.
