Six families of the victims of the AI-171 air accident received on Thursday the “second set” of the remains of the civil hospital in Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
For some it can mean a second funeral, the Times of India (Toi) informed.
June 12, London Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into the hostel complex BJ Medical College in Meghani Nagar in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad shortly after the take-off of international airport Sardar Vallabhbhai patel. More than 250 people were killed.
Consent form to make the last ceremonies
The sources said The Times of India that the form of consent was divided among the relatives of the deceased, including passengers, crew members, doctors, their relatives and locals.
“The form was looking for permission to carry out the last ceremonies of the remains that can be found during the further clearing of the site or during a medical analysis,” the official said.
Now, according to the report, these remains were from 16 bodies found at the site of the debris in Meghaninagar during operation after the disaster. They were compared with DNA samples provided by Kin.
All six families belonged to various parts of Gujarat, including Anand, Nadiad and Ahmedabad. They asked the hospital authorities to approach them in the case of DNA match.
“It is rare that the same person has more than one funeral, but in this case the families have a DNA match and a certificate of handing over deadly remains.
Of the remaining 10 victims, nine families agreed that the hospitals were conducting the last ceremonies, while the reactions of one victim’s family were expected, sources said.
“New Sets of Relaxs”
“Some have part of the body, while some have one or more bones. Because of the nature of the accident, it is possible that the victim’s bodies have gone through intense anxiety that could have caused fragmentation,” the clerk quoted.
