Social work research is essential for local administration, says the ČUK vice-chancellor

Social work research plays a key role in strengthening local governance by generating field evidence that helps governments formulate effective social welfare programs and development policies, said Battu Sathyanarayana, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka (CUK).

Addressing a special lecture on ‘Research, Writing and Publication’ organized by the Department of Social Work, researchers and students at the university campus recently, Mr. Sathyanarayana said that social work researchers and professionals play a vital role in understanding ground level realities through field visits, community interaction, village surveys, data collection and community based research. Such research, he said, provides valuable inputs to policy makers in designing welfare programs and development initiatives at the state and national levels.

Mr. Sathyanarayana noted that experts also contribute to the effective implementation of government welfare programs by creating public awareness, facilitating access to government programs and promoting positive social and behavioral change. He urged scientists to pursue original, ethical and socially relevant research and said their work should contribute meaningfully to social progress and national development.

A special lecture was given by Manohar Pawar, Professor of Social Work at Charles Sturt University, Australia and Visiting Professor at CUK. He spoke about research methodology, academic writing, publication ethics and the importance of publishing quality research in reputable journals. He urged academics to uphold academic integrity and produce impactful research that benefits society.
