As the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says it obtained doorbell footage showing an armed individual interfering with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door, social media is convinced that person is Annie Guthrie’s husband Tommaso Cioni.
The video shows a person wearing a backpack and a ski mask with eye and mouth holes. They can be seen trying to block the camera with a gloved hand and then using a plant plucked from the yard to further block her view.
It’s the first major lead in the escalating search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie. Authorities have not yet identified any suspects or persons of interest and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual seen in the footage. It’s been more than a week since investigators believe she was abducted from her home in Arizona.
Her children made an emotional video asking for help, and the case gained national attention. Although the media received the alleged ransom with two deadlines, it remains unclear whether any contact has been made with the alleged kidnappers or whether Nancy Guthrie is still alive.
Netizens react
One social media user claimed: “Nancy Guthrie suspicious picture released. She needs to take her son in law and daughter in for questioning! Do you see a mustache in addition to the eyebrows that go down the middle of the nose? I could be wrong but it looks like him.”
“Annie Guthrie’s husband with a mustache and the suspect also with a mustache. Also, we haven’t heard from Annie Guthrie’s husband since Nancy disappeared,” commented another.
A third commented: “Newly released pictures of suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping appear to show he has a moustache. Other angles look like a beard. Many speculate he could be Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law.”
Another user provided details, claiming: “Eyebrows, beard, head shape, body type…that’s Tommaso Cioni.”
Despite these reports, there is no definitive link between Cioni and the footage. Authorities have not yet identified the individual captured in the new video.
Meanwhile, following the FBI’s announcement, Savannah Guthrie shared pictures of the suspected kidnapper on Instagram, saying, “We believe she’s still alive. Bring her home,” and provided contact numbers for the FBI and the county sheriff.
The White House said President Donald Trump had seen the new surveillance footage and was reportedly in “pure disgust.”
