The team from Prada recently visited Kolhapur. The Italian fashion brand wanted to understand the history and craftsmanship of the famous kolhapuri kappals. They met local craftsmen and traders to learn how traditional leather slippers were made.
One merchant shared that the Prada team had explored the largest market in Kolhapur. They were particularly interested in leather bags used by wires and gasoline pumps to store cash.
“They came to look at authentic leather bags and liked our kolapur, especially Kapashi Kolhapuri Chappal,” one trader said.
Another seller mentioned that the team came to see the production units. They observed technical details of how these kappy were made.
“We offer authentic sewing and original quality KOLHAPURI Chappals,” another seller said.

Last month, Prada faced strong will for alleged copying of the work of Indian craftsmen without providing them with a proper loan or payment. The popular fashion brand admitted that her latest summer collection was inspired by the famous Kolhapuri Chappals.
