
Mano Bakthavatsalam died on Friday in the Municipal Hospital, Long -term Chennaiite, Karnatic Music Expert. She was 95.
She was born in 1929 and studied at St. Rafael’s School in Santhome and did a distinction at Queen Mary’s College in Chennai. On the advice of her father Sesham, prominent citizen Madras, as was known at the time, and the entrepreneur, took up voluntary work. Her two sons and their family survived her.
Vijay, her son, said he missed participation in concerts when she aged. She liked sewing and had a machine from independence. She was a member of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Committee, and was an honorary secretary of the Voluntary Women’s Services Tamil Nadu and added a correspondent and secretary at the NKT National Girls High School, he added. She was also the vice -chairman of the Gandhi Nilayam and the University Women Association in Madras.
The Margarette Golding Award was awarded her to the International Inner wheel for highly commendable personal services.
Historian V. Sriram, who for many years knew Mrs Bakthavatsalam, remembered how she previously joined several service organizations. “She worked very enthusiastically, but without fans.
