The right-handed batsman hit her maiden international century and became the first Bangladeshi woman to score an international hundred against Australia.Mostary’s 118 off 134 balls proved crucial for the visitors after Australia opted to bowl first in a must-win match. Her fighting batting combined with captain Nigar Sultana’s valuable contribution helped Bangladesh recover from 8/3 to post a competitive total.
Mostary, Sultana saves Bangladesh after premature collapse
Bangladesh were in deep trouble at the start of their innings, losing three wickets for just eight runs. However, Mostary and Sultana joined forces to turn the match around, putting together a remarkable 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket.Mostary showed poise and determination throughout her innings, smashing 18 boundaries and creating a memorable century. Sultana provided equally important support, hitting 74 off 114 deliveries as the pair steadied the innings and laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s recovery.Prior to Mostary’s century, Sultana held the record for the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi woman against Australia when she scored an unbeaten 63 in a T20I.
The record partnership is rewriting ODI history
The 195-run stand between Mostar and Sultana became Bangladesh’s highest partnership for any wicket in women’s ODI cricket. The duo surpassed the previous record of 152 runs set by Sultana and Sharmin Akhter for the third wicket against Thailand in 2025.The partnership also set a new benchmark against Australia in women’s ODIs, breaking the previous record of 170 runs. Emily Drumm and Rebecca Rolls of New Zealand held the record with their second wicket stand in 2002.Mostary’s landmark innings ended in the 48th over when Megan Schutt bowled her out for 118. Schutt finished with four wickets as she struck twice in the over to remove Fargan Hoque and Sharmin Akhter before removing Shorna Akter later.
Bangladesh aim to level the series
Despite early setbacks, Bangladesh showed resilience to finish on 220/6, with the record partnership of Mostara and Sultana providing the backbone of their innings. The visitors entered the second ODI looking to bounce back after losing the opening match of the series.
