Smriti Mandhana turns 30, Jemimah celebrates their bond in an emotional birthday note

Smriti Mandhana’s 30th birthday celebration came with a heartfelt message from one of her closest friends in Indian cricket, Jemimah Rodrigues. On Friday, July 18, the Indian batsmen took to social media to share an emotional note for Mandhana, reflecting a bond that has only grown stronger through the highs and lows of their careers.

“From loving me at the bottom to the fastest sprint that lifts me to the top, what can I say other than the fact that I am so thankful to have you in my life. Runs, trophies, awards come and go, but the love and care we have for each other remains 🙂 So to my (now buddhi) older sister, happy birthday! I love you! Jemimah wrote.

Mandhana, who made her international debut in 2013, has established herself as one of the biggest stars in women’s cricket. Earlier this month, she became the youngest woman to complete 300 international caps, achieving the milestone during India’s historic one-off Test against England at Lord’s.

The lefty also played a a key role in India’s memorable triumph at the Home of Cricket. Mandhana hit 83 in the first innings and followed it up with another half-century. Jemimah also made a valuable contribution, scoring 35 and sharing a key partnership with Mandhana after India lost the first two wickets.

FRIENDSHIPS FORGED OVER CRICKET

While the duo wowed fans with their performances on the field, their friendship outside cricket has become equally special. Over the years, Jemimah has often referred to Mandhana as an “older sister”, with the pair regularly sharing glimpses of their close bond on social media.

Perhaps the strongest example of this friendship came last year when Jemimah withdrew from the Women’s Big Bash League to stay by Mandhana’s side after her wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal was called off. Jemimah initially traveled back to India for the wedding celebrations and later decided to return to Australia, instead, she decided to support her friend through a difficult time.

The decision offered a glimpse into the relationship that goes far beyond cricket. From injuries and dips to career-defining moments and personal challenges, Mandhana and Jemimah have stood by each other every step of the way.
