Smokey Bones is set to close 15 insufficiently powerful points, reports USA Today, which means the main contraction for the once popular barbecue restaurant and bar chain.
At its peak, Smokey bones operated more than 100 seats across the country. Only 26 seats will remain after the upcoming closures, Twin Hospitality said in a press release. These remaining restaurants are expected to continue to generate a “positive cash flow” for the company.
FAT brand, owner of subsidiaries including Fatburger, Johnny Rockets, Great American Cookies, Fazoli’s and Twin Peaks, won in 2023 Smokey Bones Smokey Bones. At the beginning of this year, Twin Peaks and Smokey Bones merged under Twin Hospitality Umbrella. The company is now trying to reduce spending and increase the overall profitability.
In the strategy, 19 Smokey Bones were identified to turn into a higher power lodge Twin Peaks. “Smokey bones transfer to Twin Peaks provides a significant return on investment because a change in a permanent restaurant with a similar square shot and a real move such as Smokey Bones will cut about a year and a half of the construction,” said Ken Kuick, Fat Brands Co-Co-Co-Co-Coos and CFO. “Twin Peaks is our fastest growing concept that creates strong and growing volumes of the average unit.”
USA Today notes that Smokey Bones have already closed 10 seats, the remaining five were scheduled at the end of the year. At the end of 2024, two conversions from Smokey Bones have already completed Twin Peaks, including one in Lakeland, Florida and later in 2025 a third conversion is planned.
