
Just before takeoff at the Kolkata airport, a private jet returned to a taxi stand after smoke was seen billowing from its engine on Monday morning, officials said.
The pilot immediately alerted air traffic control (ATC), which ordered him to stop and return to the taxi stand, officials said, according to PTI.
Airport authorities at the NSC Bose International Airport quickly brought the situation under control, they added.
According to airport sources, the private plane with six passengers on board was speeding towards the runway when the pilot of another plane noticed smoke coming from its engine.
Kolkata airport director C Pattovi said the plane was thoroughly inspected but no technical problems or signs of fire were found.
After detailed checks, the private jet was cleared for departure and took off shortly after 11 a.m., he told Patto.
On Sunday evening, a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata made an emergency landing at the Kolkata airport after an “engine failure” in mid-air, officials said.
