(Image: Agencies) MUMBAI: Even though he has retired from T20Is, former India captain Rohit Sharma wants to play for Mumbai in the knockouts of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 tournament, TOI has learnt.He is currently playing for India in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa and the 38-year-old could play for Mumbai in the knock-out battles to be held in Indore from December 12-18.

The ODI series ends on Saturday. Mumbai, who have won all their four matches so far in the league phase of the tournament in Lucknow and topped the elite Group A with 16 points in the bag, are all set to enter the knockout stages. “Rohit has expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the SMAT knockouts,” said a Mumbai Cricket Association source. Earlier this year, the BCCI made it mandatory for all India players to play in domestic cricket when they are not on national duty or recovering from injury.
