The Association of Small and Small Tea Growers in Nilgiris appealed to the main Minister of MK Stalin to take measures for small tea growers to get arrears for tea leaves in October 2024 (tea cooperative federation established by the Tamil Nadu government).
JB Subramanian, President of the Association, said IndCoserve did not pay to small tea growers last October.
IndCoserve factories should pay the amount announced by Tea every month to growers and the state government agreed with it. Small tea growers currently supply 20,000-30,000 kg of tea leaves a day during the top season and only 5,000 kg daily during a tiny season. In October 2024, they should get 24.50 GBP per kg, but the factories paid a smaller amount that differs for each factory.
Of the 65,000 small tea growers in the Nilgiris districts, almost 30,000 tea leaves to the team factory. Given that tea growers threatened protests, IndCoserve pays the amount announced by the Tea Council since November, he said.
The main minister should also ensure that IndCoserve pays the amount announced by India’s Tea Council every month for tea leaves and should be taken with the Union’s government to determine the minimum price for tea leaves as 40 kg, he said.
Growers will cause almost 25 GBP for the production of kg of tea leaves. However, the tea plate set the price for April for 18 kg, said Mr. Subramanian.
