With India, South Africa and Bangladesh tied on four points after three matches, separated only by runs net, this contest was of great importance in the battle for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Australia sit top of Group 1 with four wins from four matches. The first reprieve came in the third match when Juairiya Ferdous bowled over Shree Charani. The ball flew towards short fine leg and hung in the air long enough for Yastika Bhatia to sweep over short fine leg and take a dive. She got a finger but couldn’t grab it.India then wasted another chance in the next over. Juairiya pulled a short ball from Renuka Singh straight to deep mid-wicket where Radha Yadav was placed. The chance came at a comfortable height and Radha got to it with both hands but the ball slipped away. It was an unusual error for a fielder of Radhona’s reputation and came on the back of two catches dropped by Marizanne Kapp during India’s defeat of South Africa. The mistakes didn’t stop there. In the fifth over, Sobhana Mostary drove hard into Shree Charani’s delivery and sliced the ball towards cover. Nandani Sharma moved quickly to her left and dived, got both hands on the ball but could not complete the catch.A ball later, Nandani was back in action. Juairiya attempted a sweep and the top edge flew to short third. Nandani quickly covered the ground and swooped in, but the ball failed to catch, handing Bangladesh another life. The sequence left India frustrated as four chances fell in 11 deliveries. Missed opportunities helped Bangladesh recover from the early pressure and finish the powerplay at 40/1 after six overs. The decline in catches also continued a worrying trend for India. Against South Africa in the previous match, Radha converted two chances offered by Marizanne Kapp, who scored an unbeaten 81 and played a key role in the six-wicket win.
