The Old Guntur police arrested six youths involved in the sale and consumption of MDMA during a surprise raid near Annapurna Complex on Budampad bypass on Sunday evening. Guntur Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal, disclosed the details of the case in a press conference on Monday and reiterated that the police is determined to wipe out drug activity in the entire district.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police seized 17 grams of MDMA, including 9 grams from accused Alla Anil Kumar and 8 grams from Sheikh Naweed Salman. The operation was led by Old Guntur Circle Inspector (CI) Venkata Prasad, who tracked the movement of past offenders.
The SP said investigations revealed that prime accused Anil Kumar and Chintala Sravan Chandra Prasad had traveled to Bengaluru to procure meth after falling into substance abuse. With the help of acquaintances Sheikh Roshan and Sheikh Naweed Salman contacted a supplier named Faraz Khan and purchased MDMA for ₹34,500 through online payment. The group later tried to sell the drug to two habitual users, Manigineti Guru Maharaju and Meda Ritesh, when the police arrested all six.
The SP said that special teams in coordination with the EAGLE unit are intensifying surveillance of past offenders and promised strict action, including the use of the PD Act and PIT provisions of the NDPS whenever necessary.
