Six people were rescued safely after a fire broke out at a scrap yard in Hyderabad’s Meerpet during the wee hours of Wednesday (July 15, 2026), with flames spreading to the first floor of an adjoining residential building before firefighters brought the flames under control.

According to fire department officials, an emergency call was received at 12.01 pm reporting a scrap fire at Sri Ramana Colony, Nandhana Vanam, Meerpet. Four fire engines from Hayathnagar, LB Nagar, Malakpet, Chandrayangutta and a water bow from Gowliguda were pressed into service as the fire intensified.

Officials said the fire started in a scrap yard located next to the G+2 residential building, with flames briefly spreading to the first floor of the home. Firefighters rescued six residents from the building before the fire intensified, preventing possible injuries or deaths.

A fire officer from Hayathnagar Yadagiri station said preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit when new wiring work was being carried out on a power pole near the premises. According to him, further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
