Six persons were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly procuring and selling adulterated and unhygienic paneer and milk products in Secunderabad. In another case, two persons were arrested for running an illegal cucumber manufacturing unit in Jiyaguda.
In the first case, the accused were identified as Jaipal Singh Rajpurohit, Kolariya Vaibhav, Naresh Kolariya, Prem Anil Vyas, Ram Kishore Kolariya and Laxmi Narayana Kolariya.
According to officials, sleuths from the Commissioner’s Task Force, Khairatabad Zone, along with the Food Safety Officer, conducted a surprise inspection near Ganj Bazaar, near the Mahankali Temple. During the raid, six wholesale and retail outlets were checked and the accused were allegedly procuring paneer and other dairy products from unknown sources and selling them in bulk to hotels, catering services and local shops.
Officials said the produce was stored in open plastic covers and exposed to dust, flies and other contaminants, making it unfit for consumption. The items allegedly lacked basic labeling information such as brand name, date of manufacture and expiration date, and no pest control records were kept.
A total of 3,892 kg of dairy products, including paneer, khoa, white cream, ghee and kalakand, worth about ₹11.1 million, were seized during the operation.
The accused and the seized material were handed over to the Mahankali Police Station for further action.
In a separate case, the Kulsumpura police arrested two persons for running a fake pickle manufacturing unit in Jiyaguda. The accused have been identified as N. Narsimha, 54, and N. Naresh, 45, both residents of Jiyagud.
Police said the unit was spotted while patrolling the Venkateshwara Nagar junction where the accused were found preparing pickled vegetables in unsanitary conditions using spoiled vegetables and substandard ingredients. The products were allegedly sold to local shops at low prices.
Police officers seized 72 barrels of various pickles, six barrels of tomato and tamarind paste, a barrel of ginger garlic and a scale. A case has been registered at the Kulsumpura police station under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and further investigation is underway.
