
At least six critical patients were killed in a flame at the traumatic center of the Sawai Man Singh State Hospital (SMS) in Jaipur late Sunday (October 5, 2025), the officials said.
Anurag Dhakad said that 11 patients were treated on the ICU when the fire was in storage space, suspected of being short -circuited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over tragedy and said in a post in Hindi on X: “Loss of life as a result of a fire tragedy in the hospital in Jaipur in Rajasthan is deeply sad. Dr. Sushil Bhati claimed that the number of deaths was six.
The state government created a high level to explore the incident.
According to officials, the deceased was identified as a pint from Sikar, Dilip and Bahadur from Jaipur, Shrinith, Rukmini and Khurmy – all from Bharatpur.
“Six of them, two women and four men, died in the incident,” Dr. Dhakad. “Fourteen other patients were admitted to another ICU and all were successfully evacuated to safer places,” he added.
Followed by chaos
The fire caused chaos in the building when thick smoke spread quickly and caused panic between patients and their families. In the fire, several documents, ICU equipment and medical supplies were destroyed.
Employees and serving hospital workers evacuated patients with some beds outside the building. In about two hours, firefighters brought the fire under control.

Vikas, a boy of the department who was at the crime scene, said PTI that he and other employees saved as many people as they could than the fire worsened.
“We were inside the operating theater when we heard of fire, so we immediately hurried to save people inside the center. We managed to save at least three to four patients. However, as the flames intensified, we could no longer go to the building.
He added that the police arrived later, but because of heavy smoke they could not immediately enter the building.
When the fire team arrived, the whole department was absorbed by smoke. Firefighters had to break the window to start extinguishing the fire.
Main Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Yogaram Patel and State Minister for Domestic Jawahar Singh Bedham visited the traumatic center to evaluate this situation.
When Patel and Bedham originally arrived, the relatives of some patients expressed anxiety and claimed that the staff had ignored the early warning and fled during the fire. They also claimed that the hospital staff could not provide an update to patients.
“We noticed smoke and immediately informed employees, but they did not pay any care.
Later, the main minister also spoke to doctors and patients.
He described the incident as extremely unfortunate and made sure that immediate measures were taken.
“I have visited the hospital and received information from doctors and officials. We provide patient safety, treatment and care for affected individuals. The situation is constantly monitored,” he said at X.
In response to the incident, the state government announced the creation of a committee for a thorough investigation. The Committee will deal with the causes of fire, preparedness and reaction of the hospital to emergency, security measures and steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Committee will be headed by the Commissioner of the Medical Education Department IQBAL KHAN. It is expected that after presenting a detailed message after the inspection and review of all aspects of the incident.
Meanwhile, the former main Minister Ashok Gehlot said the incident was heartbreaking and urging the state government to carry out a high level to ensure that such incidents would not occur in the future.
The opposition leader Tikaama Jully claimed that eight people had died in the incident and expressed grief.
Secretary General AICC and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot also visited the hospital and expressed sorrow of the incident.
“This disaster was undoubtedly caused by negligence in one of the most famous state hospitals,” he said.
The pilot said that it was necessary to correct the responsibility and called for a quick action.
