A massive fire broke out in one of the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) of the Sawai Man Singh Government Hospital trauma center late on Sunday night, claiming the lives of six patients who died of burns and suffocation. It is suspected that the fire that broke out in the ICU storage area was caused by a short circuit. SMS Hospital is the largest government medical facility in Rajasthan.

The trauma center building where the fire broke out on the second floor is opposite the main hospital building on Tonk Road. Center manager Anurag Dhakad said 11 patients were being treated with critical care support in the neurosurgical ICU, while 14 others were admitted to a second ICU on the same floor at the time of the incident.
