Six new residential schools Eklava (EMRS) will start working in Tripur in August, said State Minister of Bikash Debbarma on Sunday (July 20, 2025). These schools are specially designed for tribal students from level VI to XII, which provides them with quality education for free.
With the addition of these six schools, the total number of EMR in the state will increase to 12. The Minister also stated that the central ministry of the tribal matters sanctioned 21 EKLAVYA schools for the state and hopes that the rest will be founded next year.
An official from the Ministry of Regional Social Care said that at present, 2700 tribal students are registered within six existing EMR and this number is expected to double the establishment of six new schools. In addition, there are three residential schools of “ashram” administered by the state government with a combined force of 800 indigenous students.
The official hoped that the establishment of EMR and other residential schools in tribal areas would encourage indigenous children to enroll in school and significantly reduce the number of premature ending of schooling.
