On Tuesday (June 3, 2025), six sisters of the sister drowned on Tuesday (June 3, 2025) in the afternoon. The girls plunged in the river and were swept after one of them was stuck in the sludge.
Vinayak Bhosle, assistant of the Police Commissioner (ACP), said the girls came from the Sikandara area. The oldest was Muskan (18), who together with his sisters Divya (13), Sandhya (12) and Nina (14) went to Yamuna. They were also accompanied by Sonam (12) and Shivani (17), their cousins.
Eye witnesses informed the police that girls were making videos in the river and enjoying their time together. The accident occurred when one of the girls slipped. When they held each other, everyone drowned, the police said.
The family said they allowed girls to bathe in the river, and since the river would dry out in the years, but the water suddenly increased.
Four girls were swept through the current, two were rescued by their brothers, but were also declared dead in the hospital.
The police found bodies a few hours later.
Main Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over deaths. He also ordered the district administration to provide the injured with immediate and proper medical attention. “Loss of life in life due to drowning in the river in the Agra district is extremely heartbreaking and painful. My condolences are with surviving families,” he said.
For each of the deceased, 4 ₹ Lakh from the Fund for Help in disasters was announced.
