Jannik Sinner will face rival Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Six Kings Slam big money exhibition after extending his winning streak against Novak Djokovic with a commanding performance. Sinner dropped just eight of the 45 points he hit on serve against Djokovic, fired 10 aces and recorded an 81% first serve percentage. “Yeah, I feel like that,” Sinner said when asked if it was one of his best serving performances.
“I wish it was like this every time, every time, but no, we try to work on things, we try to be better as players. You have days when certain or specific things work very well, so obviously today the serve worked really, really well. We’re all trying to improve, so we’ll see. We’ve been working a lot in the last month, serving hours and hours. But if this is the result, I’m very happy.”
Sinner’s victory marks his sixth straight victory over Djokovic, including the semifinals of the French Open and Wimbledon this season.
“Pardon my language, but it’s never nice when someone kicks your ass like that on the court,” admitted Djokovic after the 6-4, 6-2 defeat. He also emphasized his enjoyment of competing with the best, noting that he will face Taylor Fritz in the third-place playoff. Djokovic is 11-0 against Fritz, who will be looking to record his first ever victory, although it won’t count against their official head-to-head.
Earlier in the day, world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz made his first appearance since pulling out of the Shanghai Masters with an ankle injury, defeating Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-2. “I made great shots today, great shots, great points,” Alcaraz said.
“That was one of my main goals before I came to this fight, to try, get great shots, great points for people, try to entertain them. I think that’s why we’re here, to please people. With the noise from people, I think they’re enjoying it, so I’m really happy for that.”
Alcaraz’s performance featured an array of dazzling strokes, from drop shots to winning forehand runs and crushing backhands down the line, signaling a return to full form ahead of the blockbuster final against Sinner.
The six-player event, which takes place over three days in Riyadh, offers huge prize money, with each participant earning an appearance fee of $1.5 million and $4.5 million reserved for the overall winner.
