Six dead and 21 injured when bus overturns on Lucknow-Agra highway

Six people, including a police sub-inspector, lost their lives and 21 others were injured when an AC double-decker bus overturned on the Lucknow-Agra highway in Unnao district on Tuesday (May 26, 2026). The incident took place at 5:15 am near Nibha Kheda village when the bus was on its way from Delhi to Bihar with around 50 passengers on board. The preliminary investigation shows that the driver was unable to drive after falling asleep at the wheel. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the bus was traveling at high speed when it hit the divider and overturned.

The vehicle eventually became stuck in a roadside guardrail, which resulted in several passengers being ejected from the windows. Police and rescue teams rushed the injured to government hospitals. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident. “The loss of life in the unfortunate road accident on Lucknow-Agra highway in Unnao district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls, strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense grief and speedy recovery to the injured.”
