
The Anantapur I ADJ Court on Thursday (February 5, 2026) sentenced six persons to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹ 1 lakh on each of the accused in the ganja smuggling case. The convicts are natives of Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and West Godavari districts.
According to the police, the Anantapur Rural Police conducted a vehicle check near the MYR function hall in the city on June 17, 2021, based on credible information about the transportation and sale of ganja. During the inspection, a car with registration number AP39 BG 9454 was stopped and 29,100 kg of ganja was seized.
After the investigation was completed, a charge sheet was filed in the Anantapur I ADJ court. After examining the witnesses and evidence, I Additional District and Sessions Judge, Anantapur, C. Satyavani, pronounced the verdict on Thursday.
The convicts were identified as Kunchapu Vadde Pawan Kumar, B. Dhanaraj and Gajula Akhil of Anantapur town; Palle Venkata Raviteja of West Godavari District, Gajula Nagaraju of Kalyandurgam Town and Poola Sunil Kumar of Kondaman Yanipalem in Kadiri Mandal of Sri Sathya Sai District.
