‘Sitting out for four years was not difficult’: Bhuvneshwar Kumar on India’s comeback
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (BCCI Photo) While the jury is still out on whether recalling Bhuvneshwar Kumar after a four-year hiatus was the right call and whether he should be considered for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the man himself is avoiding the debate and is instead focused on enjoying his comeback. The key to his comeback, says Bhuvneshwar, is that he “never chased it”. And he intends to maintain this approach.“It’s always been a dream and I’m happy to come back. But I never chased it, so sitting for four years was not difficult because I took it one tournament at a time and focused on the challenges of cricket and fitness. I never thought that I had to play to come back. That thought process made things easier and all credit goes to the last two IPL seasons Bhuvwar played here, which made me play Bhuvwar 2022 here,” he said after India on Tuesday. He added that he will return to India after the T20I series to play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy after which he will assess where he stands in terms of future opportunities.Talking about the match, Bhuvneshwar praised Abhishek Sharma and the way he approached his innings.“He’s been doing it for a couple of years now, so it’s not the first time. Credit to Abhishek for batting like that. It wasn’t easy there. The way he batted and finished the game in the first six innings in a T20 innings takes a lot of skill and Abhishek does it time and again,” he said.
