The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking permission to interrogate the accused in full and asking the apex court to relax the conditions imposed by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the investigating officers to interrogate the accused circle inspector, SSVV Nagaraju of the Krishnalanka police station, and videotape the entire process.

The SIT approached the Supreme Court on Thursday (July 9, 2026), which challenged the high court’s order.

It was alleged that CI Krishnalanka and his staff illegally detained and tortured Sai Krishna and killed him in custody in May. They later allegedly cremated the body, the victim’s family members claimed.

In another development, the Krishnalanka police filed a case against suspended CI Nagaraj and the police station staff under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Section 108 of the BNSS (aiding and abetting suicide) in the suspicious death of Perupogu Kranthi Kumar.

The victim was a resident of Phakeergudem in Vijayawada. The Krishnalan police allegedly summoned him frequently under the pretext of questioning.

The victim was a resident of Phakeergudem in Vijayawada. The Krishnalan police allegedly summoned him frequently under the pretext of questioning.

The complaint filed by Kranthi Kumar’s father, Venkateswara Rao, alleged that his son ended his life on May 21, 2026 as he was unable to bear the harassment and threats by CI Nagaraj and his aides. The police registered the case on Wednesday.

“My son uploaded a selfie video with the name of then Krishnalanka CI Nagaraju and some other police station staff. He sent the video to his mother. My son died due to police torture,” said Mr. Venkateswara Rao.

The case is under investigation.
