SIT finds no attack on former Kerala Chief Minister Veena George by KSU activists, reports
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged attack by Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) activists at Kannur railway station on former Kerala Health Minister Veena George has said that there was no assault as claimed, sources said on Sunday (Nov 1, 2026).
The SIT, headed by U. Preman, Commandant of the Kerala Armed Police Battalion, recently submitted its report to State Police Chief Ravad A. Chandrasekhar, who ordered further investigation into the incident.
As part of the investigation, the SIT recorded the statements of Ms. George, her security personnel and police officers who initially investigated the case and filed the chargesheet, officials said.
The SIT found that Ms. George was not attacked with any weapon as claimed and that the KSU activists could not even reach her when stopped by her security personnel, sources said.
Disciplinary action
Based on the report, the state police chief will decide on the next course of action, including possible disciplinary action against Ms. George’s former gunman, whose statement led to the registration of an FIR that she was assaulted with a weapon.
Action is also likely to be initiated against the police team that initially investigated the case and arrested the KSU activists, sources said.
A case was registered at the Kannur railway police station following a protest against Ms. George, who was the then health minister, on February 25 this year.
Five KSU activists protesting the alleged medical negligence accosted Ms. George at Kannur station when she arrived there to board the train. Mrs George later complained of neck pain and was admitted to hospital.
Based on the complaint of her shooter, the police registered a case of attempted murder and arrested five activists. The FIR alleged that a weapon was used in the incident.
Alleged conspiracy
Alleging a conspiracy, KSU activists claimed that they did not approach Ms. George and that the police prevented them from reaching her. The demand for further investigation gained momentum after charges of attempted murder and other serious offenses were dropped when the investigation team filed a charge sheet in court in June this year.
After the United Democratic Front (UDF) government came to power, the Home Ministry constituted an SIT on August 3 and ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain all relevant facts in the case.
