Main Minister Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday (August 11, 2025) that special intensive revisions (Sir) of election roles would help remove false voters in state river areas.
Such areas dotted with signs are primarily inhabited by Bengal or migrating Muslims, often perceived as Bangladesh in Assam.
“In the area of characters and other river areas, the list of voters is filled with the names of the deceased and individuals living elsewhere.
He said that the interconnection of voters names with their Aadhaar numbers during the SIR process would prevent duplicity and ensure cleaner election roles.
Slams Rahul
The main minister also criticized the leader of the congress Rahul Gandhi for opposing the lists of voters in Bihar, where the vote on the assembly is due at the end of this year. “It is not clear about what he wants. He should tell the election commission to revise the lists of voters with Aadhaar-Vazba so that one cannot vote in two places,” he said.
“If voters’ lists are as wrong as the Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana Congress won?
He also prevented evacuation units throughout the state and rejected the accusation of being a minority area.
“We avoid Miya by Muslim interference from forest soil, feast reserves and professional pastures. Our people do not burden such countries. Unlike tribal people, non-tribals are not eligible for land in these areas,” the chief minister said.
Miya is a pejorative term for Muslims with roots in today’s Bangladesh.
He claimed that protests of organizations such as students of All-Assam minorities against evictions would not change government policy to uproot illegal settlers. “If such organizations make sounds, there will be more eviction,” he said.
