President Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Thol. Thirumavalavan on Saturday said that the Opposition is likely to raise the issue of special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls during the winter Lok Sabha session.
Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport, he said the SIR, conducted in 12 states, has raised suspicions and the debate in the Lok Sabha is likely to disrupt the proceedings of the Lok Sabha. Workers involved in SIR are under immense stress and some have even tried to end their lives and the situation is getting worse, he said, adding that SIR is likely to erase the names of genuine voters.
The VCK leader said that the Indian government should put pressure on the Sri Lankan government to bring a political solution to the Sri Lankan Tamil issue. He also said that his party will also raise the issue of rejection of Madurai and Coimbatore Metro Rail project proposals.
Commenting on the exclusion of AIADMK leader KA Sengottaiyan to join TVK, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that the current circumstances were not favorable for the leader and his decision to join TVK was his own choice. “BJP is no longer in a position to keep AIADMK workers in the party and Mr Sengottaiyan’s decision to join TVK was a political drama by BJP,” he added.
