SIR in Bengal: The Special Intensive Review (SIR) process is in full swing. Voters who are outside West Bengal can fill the SIR forms online, which were launched last week. The SIR process involves matching voters to the 2002, 2003, or 2004 voter rolls, depending on the most recent SIR held in the respective state.

How to check your name in West Bengal SIR 2002 list?
To find out if your name is on the West Bengal SIR 2002 list, you need to search for it by the spelling of your name or the name of your parents or grandparents in the electoral roll from the last intensive revision. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

- You will see a list of 21 districts from 2002 – from Coochbehar to Birbhum.

- Next, select your constituency from the list. Kolkata South, for example, has seven constituencies.

- After clicking on your constituency, you will see a list of polling stations.

- Find and select the polling station associated with your old voter record and click “Final List”.
- Enter the captcha code to continue.
- A PDF will open with the final voter list.
- On the second page under the heading “Nirvachak Talika (Electoral Roll 2002) you will find the list of voters with details like: serial number, house number, voter name, photo ID number and other details.

As per the Election Commission of India norms, the ongoing SIR exercise in West Bengal is only considering the online SIR list of 2002. This means that all the voters – whose names are not on the list will have to match the name of their parents or grandparents.
Parents or grandparents name also not listed?
In the event that the name of the voter’s parents or grandparents is missing from the list – voters are required to attend a meeting at the Election Registration Office (ERÚ) in the coming days and submit one of the 12 documents specified by the commission.
Which documents can be used to prove eligibility?
1. Any identity card, pension payment order issued to a regular employee/pensioner of any Central Government/State Government/PSU.
2. Any Identity Cards/Certificates/Documents issued by Government of India/Banks/Local Authorities/PCU
3. Birth certificate issued by the competent authority
5. Matriculation/Educational Certificate issued by recognized Boards/Universities
6. Certificate of permanent residence issued by a state authority
7. Forest Rights Certificate 8. OBC/ST/SC or any caste certificate
9. National Register of Citizens (wherever it exists)
10. Family register processed by state/local authorities
11. Any plot/house allotment certificate issued by Govt.
12. Aadhaar shall be subject to the instructions of the Commission issued vide letter No. 23/2025-ERS/Vol.II dated 09.09.2025
The name is missing from the online list but is there in the offline list?
Although there is no official notification, a TOI report says that several voters in Rajarhat, Gopalpur, among others, have said that their names do not appear in the online SIR list for 2002 but are mentioned in the hard copy of the list collected from the DM’s office.
Can I fill the SIR form if my name is not on the online list?
Those voters whose names are not mentioned in the online list but are mentioned in the printed form of the list can fill the SIR enumeration forms with reference to the details given in the printed form, an ECI official said, according to TOI.
