SIR: BJP, RSS conspiracy should not be allowed to succeed, says BK Hariprasad

KPCC president BK Hariprasad said the Congress was not against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) but was against the alleged conspiracy by the RSS and the BJP to remove the names of genuine voters from the electoral roll. He urged the party workers to foil the conspiracy.

On June 25, he inaugurated the ‘SIR Awareness Convention’ organized by the units of Hubballi Dharwad Urban and Rural District at a convention at Babu Jagjivan Ram Sabhabhavana in Hubballi.

Mr. Hariprasad said, “India belongs to all and is not the property of any single person. We should not allow the BJP conspiracy to succeed. In the next two to three months, Congress legislators, leaders and workers should actively participate in SIR-related activities.”

He said that “RSS was never a part of the freedom struggle and the organization always wanted power to be vested in only a few people and to serve the remaining people as their slaves”. “Now the RSS has resorted to the undemocratic act of keeping all the power within itself,” he alleged.

Clarifying that the Congress was not against SIR, he said the party was against removing the names of genuine voters on the pretext of mapping. “People should understand that they will only receive the benefits of the government scheme if their names are on the electoral rolls.”

Former Karnataka Legislative Council Speaker VR Sudarshan alleged that BJP leaders were abusing the Election Commission of India for their own benefit. “Representatives should remember that it is their duty to retain genuine voters. People should also be aware of their voting rights and also take care to maintain and exercise them. Parties, officials and also legislators should monitor this exercise,” he said.

Mr. Sudarshan asked Booth Level Agents (BLA-1&2) to visit every household from 30th June. “The draft voter list will be published in August. If genuine voters have been left out, objections should be filed immediately. In each segment, separate advocates should be engaged for this purpose. Up to 10 objections should participate in the BLO-LA workshop,” Along explained.

Former minister Santosh Lad alleged that Congress supporters were identified through social media using AI technology and were removed from electoral rolls. “So everyone should be careful,” he said.

Mr. Lad claimed that by linking Aadhaar card with EPIC, voter duplication could be avoided, but it was not being done. He emphasized the need for active participation of party workers in the exercise.

Hubballi Dharwad East MLA Prasad Abbayya alleged that Congress supporters were being systematically removed in 90 assembly segments. “Everyone should be aware of this. The BJP, which came to power earlier through clandestine means, was smart enough to pull another similar stunt to come back to power,” he said.

Navalgund MLA NH Konaraddi said that the BJP is determined to destroy the Congress base and it is important that the BLAs thoroughly understand their responsibility.

The congress was attended by Congress legislators Srinivas Mane, Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan, UB Banakar, FH Jakkappanavar, former ministers AM Hindasageri and Basavaraj Shivannavar, former legislators BR Yavagal, MS Akki, Kusumavati Shivalli and a number of leaders from Belagavi division.
