Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh on Friday recalled Sir Arthur Cotton’s contribution to the development of the Godavari delta through an irrigation system, including the Dowleswaram anicut, spanning the entire length and breadth of the Godavari river.
Mr. Durgesh paid floral tributes to the statue of Sir Arthur Cotton on the occasion of his 223rd birth anniversary, which was observed across the Godavari delta on Friday. Construction of the Dowleswaram anicut began in 1847 and was completed in 1852.
In the district Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema, which is part of Central and West Delta regions, farmers also paid floral tributes to Sir Arthur Cotton statues in their villages and remembered his services to the region.
