Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the European Union to cooperate with its country to oppose “unilateral acts of bullying”, crossing over the extensive new tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump.
Jinping’s comments on Friday were made during his meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister Pedem Sanchez and comes as his first public statement on the American problem of tariffs.
Xi Jinping told the Spanish Prime Minister that China and the EU had to join hand to prevent globalization. He said that there could be no “no winners” in any trade war, adding that the EU had a key role in ensuring global economic stability.
What did Xi Jinping say on American tariffs?
“China has always considered the EU to be an important pole in the multipolar world and is one of the main countries firmly supporting unity and growth of the EU,” Xi Jinping Sanchez said during their conversations in Beijing, according to Xinhua, as agencies said.
“China and the EU should fulfill their international responsibilities, together to protect the trend of economic globalization and the international environment and oppose unilateral acts of bullying,” the Chinese president added.
His comments came a week after US President Donald Trump announced a 34 % tariff on Chinese imports and later revised him up to 145 percent after Xi Jinping was retained in the trade war.
No winners in a trade war
“There are no winners in the Customs War,” XI said without expressing Trump or the United States.
His remarks made the Spanish leader to say that “trade wars are not good – the world needs China and the US to speak.”

The aim of Sanchez’s trip to Beijing, his third in three years, is to establish closer economic and political ties with China in the middle of global fallout from customs policy Donald Trump and seek to place Spain as a partner between China and the EU and attract more Chinese investments.
Spanish officials rejected the US warning that approaching closer to the Asian country would “cut his own neck”.
“We believe there are opportunities to deepen relations, but it is important that China shows sensitivity to European requirements for more balanced relations,” Sanchez said, referring to the EU business deficit with Beijing, which exceeded $ 300 billion last year.
Trade War between USA-China
US President Donald Trump on April 2 said all Chinese imports will now have 34 % tariff, in a big step that has been shaken by a global economy since then. He exhibited a long list and stored tariffs on almost every country of the world.
A few days later, China retired with 34 % of the American import tariff. Donald Trump was visibly upset with the pull.
In the stunning conversion of Donald Trump, he said on Wednesday that he would temporarily reduce robust duties that he had just imposed on dozens of countries, including the EU-27, but further raised tariffs on Chinese imports to more than 145 percent.
China retailed by depositing 125 % of tariffs on American imports. The Chinese Ministry of Finance said China would ignore other tariffs from the US for Chinese products.
