Singareni ensures smooth deliveries of coal to state power plants

HYDERABAD

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) favors Telangana’s coal-linked thermal power plants by supplying them with enough coal on a continuous basis to ensure uninterrupted power generation.

SCCL chairman and managing director Buddhaprakash Jyoti on Friday told them to give top priority to coal transportation and further boost supplies to thermal power plants that have significantly increased production to meet the prevailing El Niño conditions.

A coordination meeting was held between SCCL CMD and Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TG-Genco) CMD S. Harish, along with senior officials of both the organizations, through video conferencing to review current power demand, coal production, transport and other related issues.

At the meeting Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti said the increasing demand for electricity under prevailing El Niño conditions will require close coordination between SCCL and TG-Genco to ensure adequate coal supply in all thermal power plants in the state. He said that special officers would be appointed to keep a close eye on the continuous transportation of coal and address operational issues on priority.

SCCL marketing department officials informed the CMD that around 72% of coal produced by SCCL is currently supplied to TG-Genco, NTPC Ramagundam and Singareni Thermal Power Plant. However, in view of the increasing demand for power and keeping in mind the interests of the state, the CMD directed that more priority be given to meet the coal requirements of Telangana thermal power plants and coal for supply to other states be appropriately redistributed if necessary.

The CMD further directed the officials of both the organizations to keep a check on coal power plant requirements and maintain close coordination on coal mining, transportation, availability of rail bunds and road transport logistics to ensure smooth supply of fuel.

He also asked the General Managers of all areas of SCCL to take all necessary measures to prevent disruption of coal production in surface mines during the monsoon season. He emphasized that coal production should not decline under any circumstances and that quality standards must be maintained without compromise.

Dr. Harish reviewed the status of coal stocks at TG-Genco’s thermal power plants and emphasized that local senior officials should proactively address any bottlenecks in coal transportation to ensure uninterrupted movement of coal.
