
The double Olympic medalist PV Sindu and India HS prannoy secured their seats in the second round of the Singapore Open Super 750 tournaments with a contrast victory on Tuesday, while several other Indian players faced early defaults.
Sindu introduced the dominant form in its opening match and broadcast Canadian Wen Yu Zhang with a commanding victory of 21-14, 21-9 in just 31 minutes. In the next round, the former world champion will face a strict test against the Olympic gold medalist Tokyo and contemporary world No. 5 Chen Yu Fei from China.
HS prannoy, currently included in the world 34, was thoroughly tested by the Danish Rasmus Gemke in Denmark. 32-year-old Indian fought back from the game down to a hard fought victory 19-21, 21-16, 21-14. Another rival of Prannoy will be in the 16th round of France Christov Popov.
But the day was less kind to the rest of the Indian contingent. Malvika Bansod, Anmol Kharb, Priyanshu Rajawat and Kiran George bowed after the hard first matches.
Malvika Bansod wasted the leadership of one game to loss 21-14, 18-21 and 11-21 to the Thai eighth seed, Supanid Katethong. Similarly, Priyanshu Rajawat suffered a loss of 21-14, 10-21, 14-21 on the Japanese seventh seeded Kodai Naraoka in a match last hour.
Anmol Kharb made a brave effort, but in the end he was surpassed by the Chinese Chen Yu Fei, fell 11-21, 22-24. Kiran George, who reached the quarterfinals of the India Open at the beginning of this year, lost 19-21, 17-21 to the Chinese Weng Hong Yang.
