(Bloomberg) – Singapore plans to store sanctions against the leaders of Israeli settlement groups or organizations responsible for violent acts against Palestinians on the West Bank.
The city state in Southeast Asia will focus on the leaders of “radical right -wing groups or settlers” who were responsible for violence, said Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on Monday. Details, he said, will be announced later.
“Singapore support for solving two states means that we will oppose any steps of Israel to extinguish or undermine such a solution,” he said. “If the situation continues to deteriorate, or if Israel is taking further steps to extinguish the solution of two states, we will again consider our position in recognizing the Palestinian state.”
“Israel’s action in Gaza has gone too long for too long,” he said.
The comments come the day after Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia formally recognized the Palestinian state, joined the growing global consensus, and moved forward with the politics that brought criticism of US President Donald Trump.
Singapore said he was ready to “basically” recognize the Palestinian state, but stopped it. Balakrishnan has repeated the condition that recognition depends on the government that adopts Israel’s right to existence and gives up terrorism.
After weeks of air strikes, Israel moves forward with a long -ended country to the heart of Gaza.
The city state has long maintained close ties with Israel, although regional neighbors, such as Indonesia and Malaysia, remain firm against their actions against the Palestinians. Israel has helped train Singapore’s armed forces in the first years of independence in the country six ten years ago when Singapore was particularly vulnerable.
Balakrishnan said that Singapore would increase the support of Palestinians in preparation for possible statehood and will continue to support the efforts to build the Palestinian authority capacities. He announced measures to assist in Gaza that he said that it would bring total humanitarian support from Singapore to more than $ 24 million ($ 18.7 million).
